Most gardeners tend to ignore color, forgetting it is just as crucial as shape, form and smell of the plant. Colorof your plant is an intregal part of any useful gardening scheme. However the vast majorities of gardeners either exclude it from their plans, or (worse) group together plants that clash and offend the eye. It is unlikely one would paper their walls with a pattern containing flowers of red, blue, green, violet, yellow and orange, all fighting to outshine each other, but that is exactly the effect that many people create in their gardens.
