If you have a hill in your yard you may assume that a hill is all it will ever be.  If you have given up on making your yard beautiful you needn’t!  You can use a little hillside landscaping to make your hill so much more than a hill.  Instead, it can be a beautiful landscape you will be pleased to call your own.

Safety should always be your first consideration when you are thinking about hillside landscaping.  Because hills can be very steep, you may need some professional help landscaping the hill.  This will make the hill beautiful without risking your safety.  If the hill is not overly steep and you can navigate it with very little trouble, you may be able to do so.  Start by surveying the are to get an idea of what you are working with. 

Start with an evaluation the soil itself, is it arid? If so, be sure to purchase nutrient-rich soil before you begin. Next, you need to think about the plants that you would like to incorporate in the hillside landscaping design.  From here things will only get more exciting! 

Bushes are always the best choice when it comes to hillside landscaping. The reason for this is that bushes are hardy in many different kinds of weather, and only require minimal pruning during certain times of the year. The kinds of bushes that you should consider for the hillside landscaping project should ideally be ones that in a horizontal fashion. 

Once the bushes have been selected, choose how you will plant them. For that, you will not only have to calculate the amount of bushes you will need, but you will also have to calculate the area that you want to dig out for the bushes. The area can be any shape that you want, but a popular shape that many people choose is the square shape. 

As for the design, you could place the bushes in a linear pattern, equally spaced so that they form the inside of the square like a checkerboard. Or, you could place the bushes in a spiral pattern.
