Things to Consider When
Planting Your Own HomeGarden
Home gardens are a very
popular hobby for people of all ages. There are a few though that are still new to the hobby and they
should know some rules before they even begin their own garden. Probably one of the most ignored rules of home
gardening would be the location. Most generally you should place your garden close to your house but away from
any trees that will prevent it from getting any light. If you plant your garden too far away from your house it
will often quickly become ignored and neglected.
You should also consider
moving your garden to a new location about every 10 years or so. In doing this you are lowering your chances of
your plants getting diseases. If you practice proper rotation and use disease prevention fertilizers it will
help but over time those disease spores will invade your soil over time and will prevent you from growing a good
crop over time.
The soil of your garden
should also be well drained. Your vegetables do not like a lot of water so be sure that you offer proper
drainage. You should consider a sandy soil that contains clay subsoil as it will provide you with the drainage
that you are looking for.
There are some other
requirements that you will also be sure that you have with your soil in an effort to make sure your vegetables
are growing good. Some of these include such
things as the proper temperature, proper moisture, and the oxygen in air are enough to allow for germination.
When you begin your garden
you need to be able to be sure that you take careful consideration before you even begin. You should also be
sure that you are keeping a record of the types of vegetables that you had in excess last year so that you
remember that you need to thin those down. There are some other things that you also need to consider when you
begin to plant your garden. These include:
1. You need to consider how
much of each vegetable that you will need to make an adequate supply for your family.
2. Which vegetables would
be healthier for your family?
3. How much extra
vegetables you should plant so that you can store some throughout the winter.
4. Consider which varieties
are best to grow in your particular zone
5. Which pesticides that
you should purchase to make sure that you are able to keep your bugs and other pests down to a bare
minimum?
6. You also need to be sure that you have all of the proper supplies that you may need such as
fertilizers, tools, and mulch among others.
Anything you can do to make
a great garden will be more than beneficial to you. If you follow all of these simple rules you will be well on
your way.
